Kai honors the ocean as lifeforce — the element that shapes the islands and the people who live beside it. Using oil on a resin cast from a full surfboard, Ruben elevates the surfboard from object of sport to vessel of reverence. The elongated form reads like a horizon-line you can hold: ocean energy, movement, and depth distilled into a single statement. Kai invites the viewer into that familiar Hawai‘i experience — where the sea isn’t background, it’s presence.
