This video talks about Ruben's roots in surfboard carving. Starting with very little resources, Ruben took what he could get hands on and started working. transforming what would have been trash into masterpieces of art.
A short documentary portrait of Hawaiʻi artist Ruben Aira Jr., whose sculptural practice transforms damaged and discarded surfboards into works of art. Filmed on Oʻahu as part of the international sustainability series Talking Trash, the film explores creativity, renewal, and the possibility of beauty emerging from what was once discarded.
