Limited edition pieces are produced in small runs and hand-finished by Ruben himself. Each carries an original touch — no two reproductions are identical.
These editions honor the spirit of the original while making Ruben’s work more accessible. Each piece is individually finished by hand, giving every edition its own character, texture, and presence. Though part of a limited run, each one still carries Ruben’s direct touch and the living influence of Hawaiʻi.
"Bird in Paradise"
Museum Collection Miniature Surfboards
- Limited Edition -
“Bird in Paradise” Miniature Surfboards are reproductions of the original sculptures made from resin and wood. Every piece is hand-painted by the original artist, Ruben Aira Jr., in oils. These pieces measure 16" x 6" and come mounted on wood. Bird in Paradise captures the spirit of Hawaiʻi in a single, iconic pairing: tropical bloom and island wildlife, living side-by-side in constant color and motion. The piece carries the legacy of wave-riding in its curves while transforming that history into a celebration of Hawaiiana – lush, radiant, and unmistakably local. The surfboard’s original shape becomes a frame for new life, honoring the islands as both sanctuary and source of inspiration. Each art piece is unique, no two reproductions are the same. Most reproduction art pieces are hand finished by Ruben himself. Made in Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi.
