Inspired by the beauty of the flora and fauna of the islands, Ruben designed this piece to represent the 'āina (land). The final piece was a beautiful full size carved surfboard. As the board was being admired and handled, it broke in half. Ruben didn’t see a broken board, he saw keiki (child) the birth of the half board.
