In Submerge, Ruben explores the feeling of surrendering completely to the ocean — floating beneath the surface, held by water, light, and stillness.
The feminine figure rests in a fetal position, suspended in the shallow glow as if between one state and another. There is a sense of protection here, but also transformation. She is not disappearing into the water; she is gathering herself within it.
That quiet suspension carries one of Ruben’s recurring themes: emergence. Submerge becomes a meditation on retreat before renewal — a moment of stillness before rising again, changed.
The work belongs to Ruben’s Stratalux series, meaning “layers of light,” where luminosity becomes part of the emotional atmosphere of the painting.
