In Afloat, the feminine figure gives herself completely to the ocean — weightless, unhurried, and held within the surrounding water.
Rather than emerging or transforming, she seems to remain suspended in a moment of pure release. The body drifts without resistance, allowing the ocean to become both environment and support.
That sense of surrender gives Afloat its quiet power. The painting becomes less about movement toward somewhere else and more about trusting the present moment — a pause between effort and becoming.
Afloat belongs to Ruben’s Stratalux series, meaning “layers of light,” where luminosity becomes part of the emotional atmosphere of the work.
