Created during the pandemic period, Shine carries a different energy from Rise. Where Rise speaks to moving beyond confinement, Shine turns toward what becomes possible afterward — openness, confidence, and the freedom to inhabit one’s fullest self.
The figure appears to rise toward warmth and light, radiating an energy that feels both inward and expansive. The work reflects a recurring idea in Ruben’s practice: transformation is not only about enduring change, but about reaching the point where something essential can finally be expressed without restraint.
Shine belongs to Ruben’s Stratalux paintings — a series whose name means “layers of light.” Here, that idea becomes more than technique. Light becomes a metaphor for emergence, clarity, and the moment when the inner self is no longer hidden.
